The construction of
Wang-An Airport started
in January 1988 and was
completed near the end
of the same year. The
airport was originally
under the management of
Penghu County
Government. The CAA
started to manage the
airport on May 11 ,
1991, and the airport
was elevated to the
status of an Auxiliary
Airport. There new
departure lounge
building became
operational in June 1994
and the original one was
renovated to become the
airport offices. The
improvement in providing
better passenger
services was positively
accepted by the local
residents. The original
runway was constructed
of bituminous material
and had weathered
severely. In order to
maintain a high level of
flight safety, the
runway was closed for
reconstruction on March
10, 1996. The new runway
construction was
completed on December
17, 1996 and had been
tested satisfactorily.
The new runway surface
is made out of PC and is
930 meters long and 23
meters wide.
