Magong Airport was commissioned in August 1977. As Penghu relies on the air transport for external transportation and its prosperous development in tourism, the annual operation volume of Magong Airport has reached over 1,790,000 persons since 1994. Due to the need for long-term development, the CAA purchased a piece of land about 11 hectares at the south-west of the existing terminal area for the airport expansion project.

The original terminal building of Magong Airport is a 2-story building with a floor area of 5,086m2 only. The new terminal building, designed for an annual passenger traffic volume of 4,010,000, is a 3-story building with 1 underground floor that occupies a floor area of approximately 37,906 m2. The 18.45m tall building is spacious and comfortable. New and innovative facilities such as (three) ramps, flight information display system, elevators and escalators, as well as baggage handling system are available. There are also nine aprons to cater for the need of large, medium and small aircrafts of Boeing 757 series and below and one apron for helicopters.

On the 1/F of the new terminal building, there are four conglomerates of check-in islands (32 check-in lines). Each conglomerate is equipped with a baggage handling system. After check-in and checking their baggage, passengers can go to the lounge on the 2/F by the escalators after passing the security check of the aviation police. Passengers of large aircrafts will board the aircrafts through the ramp; and that of medium and small aircrafts will go down to the first floor by the escalators and board the aircrafts through the
all-weather corridor to avoid the sunlight or rain. Arrival passengers of large aircrafts will follow the ramp to go to the 2/F before going down to the 1/F by the escalators to the baggage claim area and leave while that of medium and small aircrafts will follow the all-weather corridor to go to the baggage claim area before claiming the baggage and leaving. The transit routes are smooth and convenient. In order to improve the service level and meet the needs of the tourists of Penghu district, shops, restaurants and service facilities including counters for insurance, tourist information, car rental and accommodation are available in the terminal building.

The extended civil aviation zone of Magong Airport was completed and started operation on 27 September 2002 to enhance the quality of the external air transportation of Penghu. To coordinate with the promotion of the sightseeing activities of Penghu County, modernized air transportation is provided for tourists. The comfortable and spacious terminal building opens a new era for Penghu’s external air transportation.
ISO certification: The airport passed the ISO9002 on 22 December 1999 and was accredited with the certificate by BQR of the US.

Services at the information counter: There is an information counter in the arrival hall located at the center of the terminal building, which offers services including: general enquiry, tourist information, foreign exchange, missing-person broadcast, boarding assistance for the disabled, elderly, women and people with illness, nursery room and others. Please make good use of these services.
